2.5 Have a classroom arrangement that allows children to move easily in the classroom.
- Arrange the classroom to allow children to use supportive equipment to access the room and materials independently.
- A classroom that promotes freedom of movement minimizes disruptive behavior that is caused by crowding.
- Place materials low enough for children to reach so that they can independently use literacy materials such as crayons, pencils, paper, and alphabet stamps.
- When materials are accessible, children can be independent and help their friends. Encourage children to help each other, bring materials to a friend, and be partners when cleaning up.
- Get on a child’s level and/or create a blue print of your classroom to identify areas of access and barriers to engagement.
